Unprocessed information is called “RAW data” and the process of transforming it into something visible is called “RAW conversion.” If you shoot in RAW, you’re saving the unprocessed data from the sensor and saving it to your memory card, ready to be processed by software such as DxO PhotoLab or Adobe Lightroom. Software - either in the camera or on your computer - takes data that has been measured by each pixel and converts it into a color image. It’s worth remembering that a camera does not “see” an image instead, it captures information that must be transformed using sophisticated digital image processing. The basics: RAW conversion, linearity, and DNG filesĮvery image sensor in every camera produces RAW files that need to be converted into a format that is capable of being displayed on-screen or printed on paper. Linear DNG files are RAW files that have been partially developed, having undergone some complex mathematical processing to lock in demosaicing. Linear DNG files are part of a solution that allows you to combine different software to get ultimate image quality without having to overhaul your entire workflow. Photo editing software such as Lightroom and Capture One might give you creative freedom and flexibility, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting the best possible image quality from your RAW files. This is intentional and because I would also like to know I if a doing something wrong while using Lightroom. (As a foot note: I understand that I have mentioned having problems with both LightroomCC and DNG Converter. I simply do not understand what I am doing wrong.

Using the NEF copies on my PC and trying to convert them using DNG Converter.Plugging my camera into my PC, via USB, and trying to make DNG copies on my PC, using the "Copy as DNG" tool in Lightroom during import.Using the NEF copies on my PC, trying to using the "Copy as DNG" tool in Lightroom.Copying the photos from the SD card, using a card reader, and then trying open the copies in Lightroom.The following is a list of the different methods that I tried using But whenever tried to covert the files, I received an error that reads "The source folder does not contain any supported raw files." Upon further googling and reading, I read about Adobe DNG Converter v8.8 and downloaded it from Adobe's website. So then I tried using the "Copy as DNG" tool in Lightroom while importing, and received the same error as before. I wanted to edit NEF files, from my Nikon D5600, using L ightroom Classic CC, so when I tried importing the NEF files, I would get an error that read "Some import operations were not performed." When I googled the problem I read about converting the NEF Files into DNG files. YES I am only selecting a folder and not trying to open it.Two things I want to get out of the way first:
